GREENLEAF Made Oprah Find the Star

Merle was born in Okinawa, Japan to a mother of Korean and Japanese descent and an African-American father serving in the U.S Force. Growing up in Nebraska,but not into football, Merle didn’t know where she fit. A friend encouraged Merle to choose drama as a study because she was told it was “easy”. Little did Merle know that the drama department would be the community she had been longing for and that expression would give her the platform to explore social conditions and and the emotions that must be exposed to understand and accept each other. Merle graduated college and had a wild inclination that New York was where she needed to be to fulfill her purpose. With $107 in her pock, a packed Uhaul and an ailing kitten, she drove to New York and landed in the sea of many hopeful artist. Merle was still figuring out what was cool and learning everything on the fly. At the time a non-equity actor, she heard that everyone in town was going to audition for “Jesus Christ Superstar”, so she decided to learn a song and stand in line at 4am to hopefully be given the opportunity to audition. At 1pm the casting director not only called her in to the room, but gave her the space and the light to shine. Even though most things came to Merle very easily, she was still doing what she considers “on the job” training and chasing after an idea or feeling of what it is to be an actress. After a job replaced her, a blessing in disguise, Merle accredits her acting coach Warner Loughlin for giving her the strength and confidence to approach every role with ease and unwavering sense of responsibility to the intention and message of the role. After working three jobs to support her theater career, Merle Dandridge landed herself in the company of Oprah and now holds the honor of portraying Grace on OWN’s hit show, GREENLEAF. This woman’s 25 year journey is nothing short of resilient, spiritual, and guided.

Merle Dandridge currently can be seen critically acclaimed show “Greenleaf” on OWN network and will be on Broadway for the rest of 2017 in the play “Once on this Island”.

Abby recently starred on the Golden Globe nominated USA thriller, THE SINNER as detective in training, Caitlin Sullivan. Before that she was best known for her work in the FX original series, JUSTIFIED where she played the sweet but dim, Ellen May. She can also be seen as Manson follower Mary Brunner on AQUARIUS, as well as guesting on such shows as THE REAL O’NEALS, THE CATCH, LAW AND ORDER SVU, and MAD MEN.

Most recently she recurred as Emily Greenstreet on THE MAGICIANS and can be seen in the second season of IMPOSTERS out this spring. She has appeared in numerous feature films such as the 2010 Sundance Selection ONE TOO MANY MORNINGS and the indie feature CONGRATULATIONS (co-written by Miller).

Erin Cardillo and Rich Keith have been developing TV together since 2011, but it was winning the 2013 New York Television Festival that solidified their partnership. Shortly thereafter, they partnered with Alloy Entertainment to develop Significant Mother for CW Seed, a half hour comedy that was picked up to series by the network and premiered on The CW in 2015. Also in 2015, Cardillo & Keith sold an original pilot script to The CW called, The I Do Crew, with Little Engine Productions and Warner Brothers. In 2016, Cardillo & Keith served as Co-Executive Producers for Fuller House season 2 on Netflix and sold another original pilot to The CW called Life Sentence, with Doozer Productions and Warner Brothers. Life Sentence premiered on The CW in 2018.

In this episode, we learn how two entirely different career paths landed Erin and Rich exactly where they needed to be, from first meeting in an acting class in Los Angeles, to winning the prestigious New York Television Festival for their pilot, and all the little moments in between. Listen to find out how they wrote the script that became their calling card to agents and how they earned themselves a development deal with the top networks in the industry. This is an incredibly insightful interview for every actor and writer who wants to find their own voice.

Warner Loughlin has been coaching on set and privately for more than 20 years. Known for her warmth and intuitive approach, her technique shatters the myth that an actor’s past emotional traumas must be the fuel or foundation for their work.

In her earlier days in New York, Warner studied theatre with Lee Strasberg, Sonia Moore, and Michael Kahn (head of the drama department at Julliard from 1992-2006). Once in LA, Warner focused on film and TV, working as an actor, director and producer. She opened Warner Loughlin Studios in 1996 and has since worked with and shaped the careers of some of the biggest actors in Hollywood. From Oscar, Emmy and Tony nominees and winners, Warner is a star among the stars.

Warner continuously works with Amy Adams, Ryan Reynolds, Zooey Deschanel, Ashley Williams, Valerie Cruz, George Lopez, Amber Valletta, Blake Lively, and Ginnifer Goodwin…just to name a few.

While the demand for her time and expertise is high, Warner will always have a place in her heart (and schedule) for beginning actors.

Warner studied Contemporary Literature and Shakespeare at Oxford University and received her Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jodi Balfour is a talent that excites the industry and audiences alike. Her internationally diverse background paired with her raw and expansive talent has made her an actor in constant demand. Born and raised in South Africa, Jodi spent her formative years working in Cape Town’s burgeoning theatre and television industry. From the age of eight, she was on the professional stage performing in an array of ballets and musicals, and in the years that followed, her talents found their way to the small screen, where she starred and had supporting roles in both domestic and international television shows.

Upon graduating with honors in Theatre and Performance from the University of Cape Town, Jodi landed a supporting role in the BAFTA-Nominated BBC mini-series “The Sinking of the Laconia”, playing the daughter of one of Britain’s most celebrated actors, Lindsay Duncan. Since her arrival in North America, Jodi has worked across platforms in Canada and the US. She played the lead in Canada’s hit series BOMB GIRLS which earned a Gracie Award for best Drama and won Jodi a Canadian Screen Award for “Best Actress” in it’s film BOMB GIRLS: FACING THE ENEMY.

Jodi plays the lead female role in Cinemax’s critically acclaimed new drama series QUARRY, an HBO Entertainment production in association with Anonymous Content. “Quarry” is currently on air on Cinemax. She also stars in the BBC series RELLIK soon to be Cinemax.

Currently, Jodi portrays Jackie Kennedy on season 2 of THE CROWN on Netflix.
